Blaydon
Blaydon Primary Care Centre is an exciting healthcare development forming part of a combined leisure and primary care centre which aims to help transform the leisure and health services on offer to the people of Blaydon and the surrounding communities .
Whilst facilities on the former Blaydon Comprehensive School site are being developed separately, the design is treated as one building. The leisure centre is one of five projects being developed as part of Gateshead Council’s ‘Building an Active Future Programme which has been designed by P+HS Architects and S+P Architects working collaboratively for Willmott Dixon.
The Primary Care facility, designed by P+HS Architects for Gateshead PCT will provide consulting rooms for GP’s, local minor injuries with triage and a specialist plaster room as well as planned care for podiatry, phlebotomy, diabetes screening, audiology testing, dental services, physiotherapy rehabilitation, and consulting. There will also be on-site diagnostic services with X-Ray, ultrasound and echosound and breast screening. These facilities will be provided with a neighbourhood focus avoiding many patients’ need to travel longer distances to receive acute services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital or other similar centralised facilities. In order to provide comprehensive services for visiting patients, an on-site pharmacy is also proposed adjacent to the main entrance of the building.
