Edenwood LDU
Edenwood is a six-bedded facility at the Carleton Clinic in Cumbria providing assessment and treatment for people with learning disabilities. Created from the refurbishment and extension of the existing Eden day hospital on the site, the new facility was the first unit of its kind for the region to be designed with full stakeholder involvement.
In a new approach to patient care, the Trust held worskshops to discuss the design of the unit – from the early design sketches through to interior design, involving patients, carers and healthcare professionals. The result is a 6-bed purpose designed learning disabilities unit. for the people of Cumbria which provides a safe, and therapeutic environment.
Working with Kier as part of the NHS’s ProCure 21 framework, the scheme follows P+HS’s philosophy of mental health care design, using natural light, colour and carefully chosen materials to create an environment which contributes to the positive healing environment whilst maintaining security for staff and users.
P+HS continues to work with the Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust for the reprovision of mental health services as it revises its model of service across the region. Other developments include Rowanwood PICU also at Carleton Clinic and business case development for further improvements.
