We’ve been shortlisted: The Mix Interior Awards 2025!

We are delighted that Dunedin House has been shortlisted for Project of the Year – Positive Impact at the Mix Awards 2025. This recognition celebrates the collaborative effort behind transforming a dated office building into a modern, sustainable, and flexible headquarters for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
In 2021, Dunedin House was identified as the ideal site to consolidate council operations, improve service delivery, and create a workspace that truly reflects the needs of a 21st-century public sector organisation. Working closely with the project team, P+HS Architects led the design, developing a strategy that balanced operational efficiency with sustainability, staff wellbeing, and community engagement. The building was refurbished rather than rebuilt, reusing the existing structure to significantly reduce carbon impact while integrating over 600 photovoltaic panels to provide renewable energy and reduce operational emissions.
Our design approach focused on creating spaces that encourage collaboration and flexibility, supporting hybrid working while maintaining comfort and inclusivity. Workpattern provided tailored furniture, fixtures and equipment informed by pilot space trials, ensuring the interior environment promotes productivity and wellbeing. Esh Construction delivered the major refurbishment with precision, reinvesting £2.8 million into the local Tees Valley economy, while Sine Consulting guided the integration of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to meet modern sustainability standards.
Throughout the project, we drew on our expertise in public sector workspace design, carefully balancing functional requirements with inspirational spaces that foster staff engagement and community access. The result is a building that not only meets immediate operational needs but provides a resilient, adaptable, and people-focused environment for the future.
We are incredibly proud of the whole project team and our role in bringing Dunedin House to life.
We now look forward to the awards event and to seeing who will be crowned the winner.
