His Majesty The King Visits New Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at York Hospital

We are delighted that His Majesty The King has visited the new Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at York Hospital as the facility nears completion.

During the visit, His Majesty planted a Macmillan Rose alongside a member of the patient advisory group, recognising the vital role patients have played in shaping the design from the very beginning. The moment highlighted the importance of patient involvement in creating healthcare environments that truly meet the needs of the people who use them.

P+HS has been working with Macmillan Cancer Support and York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2022 to design and deliver the new centre, which will provide dedicated support for people living with and beyond cancer.

‘’Speaking from experience, a cancer diagnosis can be a huge side-swipe to normal life and this facility will provide a comforting and relaxing environment where patients and families can get support during challenging times.’’ Cath lake – Director and Project Lead.

Through extensive stakeholder engagement and a co-production approach, patients, carers and healthcare professionals have helped shape the facility to ensure it responds to the needs of the local community.

The new centre will provide a welcoming, non-clinical environment where people affected by cancer can access a range of support services, including complementary therapies, counselling, information and practical advice. Designed to promote wellbeing and comfort, the facility will offer a calm and supportive space for patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

The King's visit marks an important milestone for the project and recognises the collaborative effort that has brought the vision for the centre to life.

The facility completed this June will provide enhanced support services for people affected by cancer across York and the surrounding area.

With huge thanks to the team for a combined effort,
