Montagu Community Diagnostic Centre Completion
Montagu Community Diagnostic Centre Completion
11 June 2025
Earlier this year, construction was completed on the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) Imaging Suite for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This facility, located at Montagu Hospital, marks another key step in strengthening the hospital’s role as a centre for elective procedures and diagnostic capacity.
Built over a 12-month period, the new imaging suite includes MRI and CT scanning facilities, two ultrasound rooms, a bright and spacious waiting area, reception, and supporting clinical spaces. Now fully operational, it is expected to deliver up to 80,000 additional diagnostic appointments each year. This more than doubles the local diagnostic provision, significantly improving access to timely care for residents and helping to support earlier diagnosis, improved health outcomes and a better experience for both patients and staff. As part of the scheme, a standalone substation was also constructed to support the wider hospital site.
The design was developed through close collaboration with clinical teams, estates staff, and key stakeholders, ensuring the layout is not only highly functional and aligned with healthcare best practice, but also welcoming and patient-centred.
Great care was taken to ensure the building feels as calm and approachable as possible for patients. A continuous ribbon motif aids intuitive wayfinding, tying in with the colour scheme for the different suites, while a light-filled, spacious waiting area creates a calming first impression for patients. Inside, Visualite LED sky panels bring in natural daylight and scenic imagery to soften the clinical environment and reduce stress for those attending a diagnostic appointment. A large Digiclad wall graphic in the CT room further enhances the experience for both patients and staff.
This project is part of the Trust’s wider £100 million programme of estate improvements and was handed over by Integrated Health Projects (IHP) exactly one year from the start of construction.
We’re also delighted to share that the CDC Imaging Suite has been shortlisted for both Building Project of the Year and the Integration and Collaborative Working Award at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Awards recognising it as a standout example of healthcare excellence and collaboration.
Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this fantastic facility. Read more about the project.
