Supporting MAIN’s Vision for a New Quiet Room

Following our work on the design of MAIN’s new Independence Centre in Middlesbrough, we’re proud to continue supporting the charity in their latest vital initiative, the creation of a new Quiet Room designed specifically for children and young people who are autistic, neurodivergent, or have complex needs.

MAIN urgently needs to raise £25,000 to help transform a currently unused storeroom into a safe, low-stimulation, sensory-considerate space that will support emotional regulation and wellbeing. As part of our ongoing relationship with MAIN, we have developed the design for this space to be a calming haven for those in distress.

“This facility will be absolutely amazing for the children and young adults that MAIN supports,” said Director Pete Stead, Trustee Chair of MAIN. “It’s a continued privilege to be involved, both professionally and personally, in a project that will have such an immediate and lasting impact.”

The Quiet Room has been carefully designed to reduce behaviours that challenge and prevent crisis situations by offering a space where individuals can withdraw, self-regulate, and feel safe. Features will include padded, durable wall and floor finishes and a digital skylight that mimics calming skies or relaxing colours at the push of a button.

“The quicker we raise the money, the quicker our children and young people will be safer – it’s as simple as that,” said Heather Whyman, CEO of MAIN. “This space will keep all our children safe and ensure we never have to turn anyone away.”

The charity is calling on the Teesside community – individuals and businesses alike – to help bring this much-needed facility to life. All professional services involved in the project have been donated free of charge; funds raised will go directly toward materials and construction.

We’re proud to be standing alongside MAIN and their supporters in delivering a space that will enhance lives.
