Hexham General Hospital Redevelopment
Working with P22 Principal Supply Chain Partner IHP, redevelopment works at Hexham General Hospital for Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are progressing well.
Developed in phases, works will improve the environment for patients, families, and staff with updated, modernised facilities for Maternity, Dentistry, Oncology, Endoscopy and Operating Theatres.
Phase 1, Maternity, is complete. This stage of the development sees the transformation of an existing ICU into a new Maternity Department with reception, staff base, two flexible rooms, birthing pool, and associated spaces all designed to create a calm and therapeutic environment.
Phase 2 will provide new spaces for Dentistry, Endoscopy and Oncology with Operating Theatres delivered in the third and final phase. All works are expected to be completed in 2025.
Speaking just prior to the new Maternity Unit opening to patients, Marion Dickson, Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals said:
“This new and improved unit gives pregnant people across Hexham who choose to deliver at their local hospital a calm and relaxing place to do so. We know that getting the environment right directly correlates with a positive birthing experience and we are really proud of this space we have created - we can’t wait to open it up to our patients."
